Kaş is a small hillside harbour town on Türkiye’s Turquoise Coast, facing the Greek island of Kastellorizo across a narrow stretch of Mediterranean. Bougainvillea, whitewashed streets, diving boats and terraces make it immediately charming, but the town is also built over the ancient Lycian-Roman port of Antiphellos. That history is unusually casual here: an ancient theatre looks straight out to sea, Lycian sarcophagi sit inside the modern street grid, and you can walk from ruins to coffee to a swim without changing neighbourhoods.
Kaş was ancient Antiphellos. Its best-preserved monument is the Hellenistic theatre, while Lycian rock tombs and sarcophagi — including the 4th-century BC Lion Tomb — remain around the town.
Kastellorizo sits directly offshore, giving Kaş an almost improbable Greek-island backdrop and reinforcing how closely connected this coastline has always been across the sea.
