Beaulieu-sur-Mer

A compact Riviera base between Nice and Monaco with swimming, coastal walks, rail access and polished everyday living beside Cap Ferrat.

The place

Beaulieu-sur-Mer is a small, polished Riviera town tucked between Nice and Monaco beside Cap Ferrat. It grew into a celebrated winter resort during the Belle Époque, and that legacy is still visible in the villas, palms, old hotels and unusually composed waterfront. The scale is part of the appeal: Baie des Fourmis, the port, shops, station and daily errands fit into a compact footprint, while neighbouring Villefranche and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat expand the world around it without requiring a car.

Landmark

Villa Kérylos is an early-20th-century villa designed as an extraordinary homage to a noble house of ancient Delos, complete with a sea-facing peristyle, marble and Greek-inspired interiors.

Belle Époque chapter

Beaulieu became a fashionable winter seaside resort for European royalty, aristocracy and the upper bourgeoisie, which explains much of its elegant architectural character today.

Why it works for Beautiful Abroad

Beaulieu works when you want Riviera beauty without basing yourself in a large city or relying on a car. Swimming, coastal walking, rail and polished everyday life are strong; serious work is more apartment-first than coworking-led. Recovery ranges from local treatments to easy-reach Monaco, and the train makes Menton, Nice and Italy feel like part of the same living network.

Where to live

  • Central Beaulieu / station → Place Marinoni → Baie des Fourmis ↗Compact core where Reformer, supermarket, pharmacies, cafés, station and Baie des Fourmis all sit inside an unusually easy daily radius. Caution: No dedicated coworking; cafés best for shorter laptop sessions. Quieter evenings than larger Riviera towns.
  • Port / Petite Afrique ↗Best if beach time and the port matter more than being steps from every errand; still close enough to central Beaulieu to function without a car. Caution: Slightly less immediate for station/supermarket/Pilates than the central axis.
  • Villefranche-sur-Mer + Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat ↗Villefranche adds Old Town dining and beach energy, while Cap-Ferrat adds coastal walking and swimming. Both are easy to reach from Beaulieu, but not everything should be treated as part of everyday walkable life.

Movement

  • Kelly Loves Pilates ↗Classical/Romana’s Pilates with full apparatus, English instruction and direct online booking; strongest zero-friction Pilates anchor for a short or multi-week stay.
  • Studio Pilates Beaulieu ↗Private STOTT Pilates Mat + Reformer in English or French, within the central/station walking zone.
  • Evananda Yoga ↗Recurring Hatha yoga with breathing and meditation-oriented practice in the compact central Base.
  • Beaulieu Fitness Factory ↗HYROX-affiliated coached cross-training with small groups; strong strength/conditioning option for a town this size.
